Snowflake Ornament 102513

By M. J. Joachim

Today’s project came about as a result of wanting to use up small balls of left over yarn. Scrap yarn is great for making fun little trinkets like coasters, flowers and Christmas ornaments.
Looking at this particular project, it occurs to me that one could add a small picture, bead or charm to the center. Even a hanging earring would work well, especially if you lost one and only have one left. If adding a picture, I would attach a small piece of felt to the back, leaving an opening at the top. This way you can switch out the photo as desired.
Step 1:  Chain 12; form a ring by slip stitching into 1st chain
Step 2:  Chain 1, make 16 single crochet in ring; join with a slip stitch to 1st sc
Step 3:  Chain 3 (counts as 1st dc); make 2 dc in same sc
Step 4:  Chain 2, make 3 dc in third single crochet from hook
[Repeat Step 4 four more times; chain 2, join with slip stitch to top chain of 1st dc]
Step 5:  Slip stitch in next dc, chain 4 (counts as 1st triple); make 4 more triple in same stitch
Step 6:  Chain 2, single crochet in next chain 2 space
Step 7:  Chain 2, make 5 triple crochet in 2nd dc from hook
[Repeat Steps 6 & 7 around, ending with chain 2 and joining to top chain of 1st triple]
Step 8:  Slip stitch in each of next 2 triple; chain 12, slip stitch in same triple to make loop
Step 9:  Chain 1, turn; make 15 sc in same loop, join with slip stitch to 1st sc
Finish off. Weave in loose ends.
These are so quick and easy to make, you can probably produce a whole bunch, just in time to give as gifts for Christmas. No time like the present to get started on those, after all.
Thank you for visiting Lots of Crochet Stitches. It’s always so good to see you here.
