Popcorn with Picot Stitch Christmas Ornament

Christmas will be upon us before we know it, and if you’re like me, you want to have several neat treasures available to make it extra special. This Popcorn with Picot Stitch Christmas ornament is an original pattern I’m relatively certain you will enjoy. It works up very quickly, can be made in many different sizes and can easily be embellished with beads and other festive accents. You can even make it big enough to hang a picture of a loved one (or Santa) in the center. It’s a fun holiday gift that can be given as an heirloom treasure and added as a special keepsake gift tag.

Use your yarn scraps and whatever size hook you’d like to make dozens of these delightful and unique Christmas ornaments.

Foundation Chain:  Any length desired (+2 more chain stitches)
Step 1:  Make 4 double crochet stitches in 3rd chain from hook.

Step 2:  Remove loop from hook; insert hook in 1st dc, and then back through loop from last dc; yarn over, draw through both stitches so that 1 loop remains on hook. (popcorn stitch complete)

Step 3:  Chain 3, slip stitch in 1st chain (picot stitch complete)

{Repeat Steps 1 – 3 for each chain in your Foundation Chain.}
Step 4:  Join with a slip stitch to 1st popcorn with picot stitch (circle will form)

Step 5:  Make chain the length desired for hanging and single crochet in place where first and last popcorn with picot stitches were joined.
Finish off. Weave in loose ends.
Special Note:  Keep a long tail on initial Foundation Chain. Weave in tail, closing bottom of ornament together.
