Popcorn Crochet Stitch Spiral

by M. J. Joachim
Updated 4/19/16

The popcorn crochet stitch uses 4 double crochet stitches and a closing chain to make a raised stitch in your pattern. It can be worked [all- in- one- stitch] or across multiple stitches, to add detail and decoration to your work.

Practice the all-in-one-stitch popcorn stitch by making a chain and foundation row of one of your basic stitches like single crochet, half double crochet or double crochet. Chain 3, turn at the end of the foundation row.

Step 1: Double crochet (4 times) in next stitch

Step 2: Remove loop from hook

Step 3: Insert hook into 1st double crochet and pick up loop that was dropped from hook

Step 4: Yarn over; draw through both stitches, so that one loop remains on hook

Step 5: Chain 3

Repeat steps 1 – 5 across row.

Finish off.

Oh, did I mention, the longer the chain, the bigger the spiral?! Have fun with this playful edging, party and holiday decoration, little girl’s hair ribbon…
