Double Shell Crochet Trim and Edging

by M. J. Joachim
Updated 4/20/16

Attach this festive crochet trim and edging with needle and thread, beads and sequins or fancy embroidery stitches to just about anything you can imagine. Use 4-ply colorful yarn to make a trim for cut-offs, skirts and fashion accessories like purses and hair bands. Use doily thread to make a beautiful lace trim for fine linens and elegant formal attire.

A neat feature of this particular trim is that you can make it as long or short as you need, without worrying about pre-measuring beforehand. This makes it a perfect trim for Christmas stockings and holiday decorations. It’s also easy to wrap around candles, or attach short segments of it to any number of different items.

Step 1: Chain 5

Step 2: Make (1 triple crochet, 3 chain, 1 triple crochet) in 5th chain from hook

Step 3: Chain 3, turn, make 9 double crochets in next chain 3 space

Step 4: Skip next triple crochet, make (1 triple crochet, 3 chain, 1 triple crochet) in next chain

Step 5: chain 3, turn, make 9 double crochet in next chain 3 space (same as step 3)

Step 6: Make (1 triple crochet, 3 chain, 1 triple crochet) in space between next triple crochet and double crochet stitches

Repeat Steps 5 & 6 for pattern
